Acts

The Book of Acts

John O’Dell was an instructor of Biblical Greek at Chafer Theological Seminary (CTS) in Orange, CA. He has a B.A. in Religious Studies from CSULB and an M.B.S. in Biblical Studies from CTS.

Besides teaching languages at the seminary level, John has been involved with adult Christian education at various local churches for over 25 years. He currently teaches an adult Sunday school class at the Evangelical Free Church in Huntington Beach where he is a member. John and his family reside in Fountain Valley, California.

The book of Acts emphasizes the work of the Holy Spirit. The book begins with Jesus' promised gift of the Holy Spirit, which is fulfilled in reference to the Jews, Samaritans and then for the Gentiles. Luke succeeds in showing that Jesus was a world Messiah and not just another prophet. The message of Jesus was not limited to Israel but extended to the Gentiles as well. The growth of the church, as recorded in the book of Acts, shows how God's divine plan moved from Jesus' redemptive work on the cross, which reconciled Jews and Gentiles together into one body, outward from Jerusalem into the whole world.

We will look at how a small group of Jewish believers in First Century Jerusalem has grown into a church that 2.1 billion people worldwide claim as their faith. Following Peter's sermon at Pentecost, the disciples faced persecution from both Jews and Gentiles as they took the message of the Gospel into the world. They also ran into theological heresies that challenged the truth of the Biblical message of God's revelation. The class will trace how the growth of the church, its rituals, beliefs, and practices took place after the book of Acts and the death of the original Apostles. We will look at the great doctrinal controversies, the men and women who have played major roles in church history and how our modern Christian denominations began.

Recommended text book is: The Story of Christianity (one-volume edition) by Justo L. Gonzalez, and Chronological and Background Charts of Church History by Robert C. Walton, available on Christianbook.com and Amazon.com.

Anti-Semitism

Anti-Semitism

Olivier Melnick's passion is to see Jewish people throughout the world receive Yeshua as their promised Messiah. He serves in Southern California as part of the Chosen People Ministries staff. He and Ellen have two children, J.D. and Klaire.

This class will cover many aspects of anti-Semitism across the centuries from antiquity to its modern rebirth. We will define anti-Semitism proper in relation to racism, and study the biblical source of anti-Semitism.

Starting with the Old Testament account, continuing through the New Testament and the writings of the Church Fathers and Martin Luther, we will take a look at how the oldest hatred was formed and grew to become the motivation behind key historical events such as the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Eastern European Pogroms, and the Holocaust amongst others. We will also study how it morphed into the new anti-Semitism of our times.

Since Christian witness to the Jewish people must be accomplished in light of and despite 2000 years of anti-Semitism, this class is a must for anyone who wants to understand it, and who wants to better relate to the Jewish people and show them the love of Messiah.

Some of the questions answered by this class:

  • What is anti-Semitism?
  • What is the source of anti-Semitism?
  • Is the New Testament anti-Semitic?
  • What led some of the Church Fathers to write their anti-Semitic diatribes?
  • Is there a difference between anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and anti-Israel sentiment?
  • Can Christians fight anti-Semitism?

Daniel

The Prophet Daniel

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

If you want to understand the prophetic books of the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation in the New Testament, then you must understand the book of Daniel. The key that unlocks the prophets and the book of Revelation is chronology. The prophetic chronology is supplied by the book of Daniel and then further developed in the book of Revelation. The course of human history is determined by a Divine plan. Rabbi Nosson Scherman in his Overview in the ArtScroll Tenach Series commentary by Mesorah Publications calls Daniel “A Bridge to Eternity.”

Come cross this “bridge” with us to a new and deeper understanding of God’s plan for mankind, an understanding that will resolve the fear and anxiety our present world generates on a daily basis. You will see very clearly that the world is not spinning out of control, but the God of the Universe, your Heavenly Father, is preparing a spectacular, awe-inspiring world for all who trust in Him.

Ephesians

The Book of Ephesians

John O’Dell was an instructor of Biblical Greek at Chafer Theological Seminary (CTS) in Orange, CA. He has a B.A. in Religious Studies from CSULB and an M.B.S. in Biblical Studies from CTS.

Besides teaching languages at the seminary level, John has been involved with adult Christian education at various local churches for over 25 years. He currently teaches an adult Sunday school class at the Evangelical Free Church in Huntington Beach where he is a member. John and his family reside in Fountain Valley, California.

The church in Ephesus was a hot bed of cultural, ethnic, and theological tension. The city was famous for its temple to the goddess Artemis (Diana), which contained a magical statute that the citizens believed had fallen from heaven. Ephesus boasted a very large outdoor theater which provided plays and other activities to feed the cultural appetites of the region. Ephesian believers found themselves trying to live holy lives surrounded by a seductive secular culture. Inside the church, Jewish and Gentile believers fought with each other over their place in God's kingdom. Ethnic resentment fueled theological battles.

This class will do an in depth study of the book of Ephesians. We will look at Paul's theological thesis in chapter one, which underlies the rest of the book. We will see how Paul reveals the mystery of the Church Age for the very first time. We will study Paul's teachings on relationships based on mutual submission. Relying heavily on the Greek and English texts, we will examine Paul's theological arguments and how his teachings can be applied to our lives as believers.

Ezekiel

The Prophet Ezekiel

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

The prophet Ezekiel was a contemporary of Jeremiah and Daniel. His main goal is to declare the holy character of God and to extol His glory. The effect of Ezekiel’s labors is to be seen in the improved character of the Jewish people towards the close of the Babylonian captivity, and their general cessation from idolatry and return to the law.

For the average reader of the Bible, the Book of Ezekiel is like a maze of incoherent visions. This perception often prevents readers from studying the book and to miss one of the great literary and spiritual parts of the Old Testament.

Come join us as we explore the writings of the prophet Ezekiel.

How to Interpret the Bible

How to Interpret the Bible

Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Th.M., Ph.D., is one of the foremost authorities on the nation of Israel and is a messianic Jewish believer. This has made him a popular speaker and teacher at Bible conferences, congregations, and churches throughout the world. He received his B.A. from Cedarville University, his Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from New York University. His graduate work also includes studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Based in San Antonio, Texas, he is founder and director of Ariel Ministries which is dedicated to evangelism of Jewish people and discipleship of Jewish and Gentile believers from a messianic Jewish frame of reference.

The purpose of this course is to learn how to correctly interpret the Bible. Primarily, the course will cover the rules to apply when interpreting different types of Biblical literature such as historical, poetic, prophetic and epistolary.

The course will include the principles of the literal, historical, grammatical and cultural hermeneutic. It will also cover symbolic language and how that interacts with the literal hermeneutic.

The historical aspect will include the historical backgrounds of biblical events and the grammatical aspect will focus on the meaning of the terms at the time they were written. Recognizing that while the whole Bible is to us but the whole Bible is not for us will clarify what applies to us today and what does not.

By applying the rules of interpretation, this course will also focus on the eight covenants of the Bible which give a knowledge of the Bible as a whole which, in turn, will make the study of the details much easier.

How to Pray

How to Pray

A pianist with a passion for putting God's Word to music, Micah Chung has been involved in music ministry for almost a decade. He has taught English in China and previously served as youth minister at a Chinese Baptist Church in Orange County. In 2010 he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Divinity from The Master's Seminary. Micah loves helping others glorify God through worship that is heartfelt and grounded in theological truth.

Whether we happen to be new believers or those who have walked with the Lord for many years, our Heavenly Father has given us the joy and privilege of praying to Him. However, we all seem to struggle with this gift of prayer, often treating prayer less as a privilege to enjoy and more as a chore to neglect. When we do pray, distractions can easily crowd our minds, and our requests can become more about what we want than about what God wants. No wonder, then, that God would feel so distant when we pray.

So where should our focus be when we pray, and what should we ask for? This class will seek to recapture the joy and privilege of God-centered prayer, using Jesus’ own teaching on prayer as our inspiration and guide. As we explore the amazing depth of Jesus’ teaching on prayer, we’ll see how incorporating His teaching into how we pray will draw us nearer to the very heart of God and His glory. Be ready to dig deeply into God’s Word and see our lives transformed to be more like Christ as we learn to pray God’s way and for God’s glory. In this class, we’ll see how God invites us, through His Word, into an intimacy with Himself that goes beyond all that we can ask or think.

Are you ready to draw near to the heart of God through prayer? Are you ready to be on fire for the glory of God? Are you ready to leave behind mediocre and selfish prayers and rise up as a prayer warrior for the Kingdom of God? Then join us on Wednesday night, where we’ll have Jesus Himself be our teacher through His Word.

Introduction to Apologetics

Introduction to Apologetics

Jeremy Livermore received his M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. He hosts the Apologetics radio show weekly on 99.5 fm KKLA, writes articles, and speaks on apologetics internationally.

Why do you believe what you believe? What evidence or reasons can you show to validate your worldview? How do you know what you believe is true? Apologetics is the study that shows how and why the Christian faith is grounded in truth through reasons and evidences which bring down the walls of unbelief, skepticism, and uncertainty.

As Christians we should have compelling and grounded answers for our own intellectual integrity as well as sharing with non-believers. Here is an opportunity for you to know how Christianity is grounded in history, science, philosophy, and reality. Learn the truth claims of Christianity and how you can be intellectually justified. We will discuss how the philosophical underpinnings of the Christian faith make sense and are compelling for the rational person.

The class is meant for the Christian and non-Christian who hopes to deepen his understanding of why and how Christians believe the things they do. Topics include biblical, scientific, philosophical, theological, experiential, and cultural apologetics. The class will benefit all who are seeking, struggling, or even skeptical. It will especially benefit those with teenage children who will be subjected to the pervasive pluralistic worldviews in a secular and postmodern culture.

Apologetics allows direct access to Jesus by removing intellectual barriers. Learn how Christianity corresponds with reality better than any other worldview or set of beliefs.

Isaiah

The Prophet Isaiah

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

This thorough class will develop the messages given to Israel, from God, through Isaiah the son of Amoz. Robert Morris, Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and a Jewish Believer in Jesus, will take you through the text indepth from a Jewish perspective.

The major subjects Isaiah covers are:

  1. The Gospel of Isaiah (First Coming prophecies such as the powerful but controversial prophecy of the Virgin Birth in Isaiah 7:14., the Stone of Stumbling prophecy found in Isaiah 8:14, and the Suffering Servant described in Isaiah 52:1253:13)
  2. The Messianic Future (Second Coming prophecies such as The Light to the Nations found in Isa. 42:6),
  3. The Day of the Lord (The Tribulation Period)
  4. The Holiness of God
  5. The Faithful Remnant and
  6. God’s call for Israel’s national repentance.

Clear answers will be supplied to Jewish objections to the claim that Messianic prophecies of Isaiah find their fulfillment in Jesus. Your life will be changed forever as you drink in the glory of God and witness the magnificence of His Messiah as found in one of the most loved books of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Jeremiah

The Prophet Jeremiah

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

Jeremiah was called to the prophetic office at a most unhappy time in the history of Judah. Both politically and morally, the nation was at a low ebb. God had earlier sent His prophets, but the people would not hear. Jeremiah was eventually called to warn the people of the impending judgment. This judgment against Judah is the great theme that runs through the book of Jeremiah.

In Jeremiah’s eyes, Babylon was God’s instrument of judgment. Judah would be conquered by Babylon. For the sake of the city and the lives of the people, it is only wise to surrender. All they had to cling to was their nationalism, which led them to not only reject the message, but the man as well. Considered a traitor, Jeremiah was persecuted by the mighty and the lowly alike.

Against this dark background of warning and judgment, however, there is also a message of hope. Some of the most glorious messianic prophesies of the Old Testament appear in Jeremiah.*

Jewish Outreach

Jewish Outreach

Olivier Melnick's passion is to see Jewish people throughout the world receive Yeshua as their promised Messiah. He serves in Southern California as part of the Chosen People Ministries staff. He and Ellen have two children, J.D. and Klaire.

The Bible is clear about our relationship to the Jewish people. As early as Genesis 12, God makes a covenant with the Jewish people through Abraham. God’s “foreign policy” as it comes to Israel is clear when He says: “I will bless him who blesses you and I will curse them who curse you”.

The best way to bless the Jewish people is by giving them the gift of the Gospel. But we must realize that sharing our faith with Jewish people requires different approaches and methods.

The “Jewish Outreach Class” is designed to equip believers to share with their Jewish friends and family members in a sensitive yet non-compromising way. Topics for this 10 session class will include:

  • A Brief Survey of Jewish History
  • Jewish Demographics
  • Who Are The Jewish People? (who is a Jew, Gentile, Christian, Messianic Jew, Spiritual Jew and more)
  • The Gospel to the Jewish People: Why?
  • The Gospel to the Jewish People: How? (Misconceptions, Objections, Unacceptable Doctrines)
  • Messianic Prophecies
  • Gospel Presentation from the Tanakh
  • Terminology
  • Role playing

Messiah and the Tabernacle

Messiah and the Tabernacle

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

...the dimensions, decorations, and rituals of the Tabernacle take up the better part of the books of Exodus and Leviticus, and make up a large part of the content of the Torah. Comprising such a large part of the Law’s content, these texts demand serious theological interpretation and application. In figurative terms they cry out Darsheni, 'Explain me.' Pinchas Giller, The Jerusalem Report, February 20, 1997

This series concentrates on Chapters 25-30 of the Book of Exodus exploring both the original construction and importance of Israel’s Tabernacle in the wilderness as well as its Messianic significance. Pastor Robert Morris, will take you through the texts from a Jewish perspective. The series will unfold the original instructions given to Israel and the New Covenant truths they portray. Finally, you will learn how these truths relate to Believers today. The Tabernacle course is designed to enhance your understanding of this significant portion of the Bible, to deepen your understanding of Jesus and His priestly work on the behalf of Believers, and to strengthen your walk with the designer of the Tabernacle, The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You will find yourself better equipped to share the Messiahship of Jesus with your Jewish friends, relatives, co-workers, and neighbors.

Please note that classes 2 and 3 were "video" classes. Audio files are not available for these sessions. We will continue the audio files with session 4. Thank you for your understanding.

Messianic Prophecy

Messianic Prophecy

Mark Ellick was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Hebrew school as a youth, and was Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. At twenty-two, he discovered the real meaning of Judaism when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Since becoming a believer, Mark has found fulfillment in teaching and preaching the Word of God.

Because Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they became subject to spiritual death (separation from God) and physical death. Since all human beings are descended from Adam and Eve, they inherit from them a sin nature, commit sins, and die. If we die physically in a state of spiritual death, spiritual death becomes permanent, and we are separated from God forever.

However, because God is gracious and loves us, His judgment upon Adam and Eve (and their descendents) was followed by a promise: He would send a Messiah, One who would reverse the effects of the fall and ultimately enable us to be free from the curse of death. In the Old Testament, God included a number of "messianic prophesies." These are passages that predict the coming of the Messiah, and give us important information that enable us to recognize Him. A careful study of these prophesies shows that only one person in history fulfilled all of them: Jesus of Nazareth.

Messianic prophecy is valuable for a number of reasons. As we mentioned above, they enable us to determine the identity of the true Messiah. They also prove that the Bible is the Word of God, for only God could have known in advance, and with such detail and accuracy, events that would occur centuries after they were predicted. Messianic prophecy is also a valuable tool in witnessing. Demonstrating to the unbeliever that the Hebrew prophets made astounding predictions about Jesus far in advance of His coming can help to convince them that He truly is the Messiah.

This course will involve an in depth study of the messianic prophecies related to the first coming of the Messiah. In order to correctly understand these prophesies, it is first necessary to be able to accurately interpret the Bible. And, in order to correctly interpret the Bible, we must first understand certain fundamental truths about it. Therefore, the course will begin with a study of the Bible as the inspired, infallible Word of God, followed by a study in how to correctly interpret the Bible, and then a study of the meaning and fulfillment of the messianic prophecies.

The course will enable the members of the class to identify the messianic prophecies, correctly interpret them, use them in witnessing, and defend them against those who deny their truth. Join us as we study the prophecies that confirm that Jesus is the Savior of the world who died for our sins that we might be reconciled to God.

New Testament Overview

In our New Testament Overview class we will get the “big picture” of each book of the New Testament. Every believer should know what is in all of the New Testament books. This class will go a long way in equipping believers to know and understand what God has revealed through this portion of His Word.

The Old Testament has prepared us for the New Testament. All the ceremonies of the law and the unfulfilled prophecies of the prophets are explained in the New Testament. As J. Sidlow Baxter has written:

Yes, the Jesus of the New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament ceremony, history, philosophy, prophecy. In the Old Testament He is coming. In the Gospels He has come in visible humanity. In the Epistles He has come in by the invisible Holy Spirit. In the Apocalypse He comes back in the glory of world empire. The fulfillments at His first coming prove Old Testament prophecy to be Divine; and they equally guarantee that the still unfulfilled remainder, in both Old and New Testaments, will just as certainly burst into occurrence when the predestined hour strikes.

We will begin the course with a look at what happened in the four hundred “silent years” between the Old and New Testaments. We will see how the four gospels show the life of Jesus. We will learn the great story of God beginning to build His church in the book of Acts. We will soar with Paul to the heights of the glory of God in his epistles. We share in Peter and John’s presentation of the truths of the Christian life in their letters. We will take heed to the warnings in Jude’s letter. We will conclude with the triumphant vision of God’s sovereignty as it is unfolded in prophecy of the end of God’s program for this earth as written in the Book of Revelation.

Join us on this tour of the New Testament.

Old Testament Overview

Old Testament Overview

Pastor Dennis Sherman was born in Ottawa, Kansas to Christian parents. From the time he was born, his parents communicated the Gospel to him. At a young age he trusted Christ as his savior and by the time he graduated from high school, he knew God was directing him to serve either as a missionary or as a pastor. During his college years, God provided him with various leadership opportunities at Camp Wynola, Carson Bible Church, and Imperial Community Church. Dennis began his ministry at ICC on September 1, 1968 and it expanded to a permanent full time ministry when he graduated from Biola in 1969. He has served the Lord continually at ICC until the present. Dennis and his wife Terry have two sons, Steve and Mark.

In the New Testament, we learn that our Lord placed a very high value on the Old Testament because each book testifies of Him. Every Christian should study the Old Testament to learn more about Christ. Yet many believers are intimidated when they come to the Old Testament and so they neglect it.

In this course we will try to remove the intimidation many have of the Old Testament as we look at each book in an overview. The goal is that by seeing the broad view together, you will then study the details in your private devotions and understand it better because you will see how the parts relate to the whole.

Join us as we begin this life-changing study.

The Book of Genesis

The Book of Genesis

Mark Ellick was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Hebrew school as a youth, and was Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. At twenty-two, he discovered the real meaning of Judaism when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Since becoming a believer, Mark has found fulfillment in teaching and preaching the Word of God.

It might be said of the Book of Genesis that “it is shallow enough for a baby to wade in, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim in.” Genesis is very easy to read; one could read it to a child and the child could follow the interesting stories in the book. Yet, some of the most profound truths of God are found in Genesis, as well as some of the most heated controversies. Genesis is a book to read, be studied, and studied again.

This course will involve an intensive, but understandable verse by verse study of Genesis. All of the stories, from creation to the death of Joseph in Egypt will be discussed. When it is helpful to our understanding, the original Hebrew will be looked at in a way that is understandable to those who do not read Hebrew. We will look at the big picture, including all of the stories in Genesis, as well as the details of key passages in the book, such as the three verses that make up the Abrahamic covenant.

Come with us as we journey through this wondrous book. Your participation in this class is encouraged, and will result in a blessing to you and a better understanding not only of the Book of Genesis, but also of the Bible as a whole.

The Book of John

The Book of John

Mark Ellick was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Hebrew school as a youth, and was Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. At twenty-two, he discovered the real meaning of Judaism when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Since becoming a believer, Mark has found fulfillment in teaching and preaching the Word of God.

John is very clear as to why he wrote his gospel. In John 20:30-31 he writes, "Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” In his gospel, John records a number of the signs (miracles) that Jesus performed, along with a number of things that Jesus said. He did so in order that one who reads the gospel with an open mind and the illuminating ministry of the Holy Spirit, will become convinced that Jesus is God incarnate, the Messiah.

John had another important reason for writing his gospel. The book was probably written at a time when the church was composed of second and third generation believers who needed more detailed instruction about Yeshua as well as new defenses for apologetic problems raised by apostasy within the church and growing opposition from without. The understanding of the person of Messiah that had depended on the testimony of His contemporaries was becoming a philosophical and theological problem. Doctrinal variations had begun to appear, and some of the assertions of the basic messianic truths had been challenged. A new presentation was necessary to meet the questions of the changing times.

This course in the gospel of John will be a verse-by-verse study of the book. Major themes will be discussed, the book’s relationship to the Old Testament will be studied, and John's emphasis on belief in Jesus, and how he develops this important theme, will be studied.

The Book of Psalms

The Book of Psalms

We will only know in eternity what the Book of Psalms has meant to God’s people through the centuries since it was written.

This book is the greatest poetry every written. In it we find: theology at work in people’s lives during the “good times” and the “bad times,” songs of worship to God and encouragement of His people, reflections of the human emotions of sorrow, fear, doubt, hope, joy.

You are invited to come with us as we unlock the inexhaustible riches of this much loved portion of Scripture.

The Book of Revelation

The Book of Revelation

Mark Ellick was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Hebrew school as a youth, and was Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. At twenty-two, he discovered the real meaning of Judaism when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Since becoming a believer, Mark has found fulfillment in teaching and preaching the Word of God.

In A.D. 90, while in exile, God gave the apostle John a series of visions. John was instructed to write what he saw, and his writings became the Book of Revelation. The book promises blessings to those who read it with understanding and follow its teachings. It also records God’s ultimate victory over His enemies and the enemies of His people.

It is unfortunate that today many believe the Book of Revelation to be a book filled with obscure symbols that cannot be understood. John intended that we understand what he wrote. The Book of Revelation contains tremendous promises for obeying its contents, and obedience implies understanding.

The SBJS course in Revelation is a verse-by-verse study of the book. The symbolic language is interpreted so that students may understand the literal message behind the symbols. The time line and action of the book are looked at in detail. Come with us as we journey through the book, and share in the blessings that we receive as we study the Revelation of Jesus the Messiah.

The First Regathering

The First Regathering

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

This timely and important class will inform the student about the biblical and historical background that surrounds the modern State of Israel and the current situation in the Middle East. In addition, the class will explore the impact these events have had on the worldwide Jewish community and the church.

The first part of the class, a theological overview of Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel, has been completed. It answered questions such as: What is Zion and Zionism? What does the Bible have to say about God’s plan for the Jewish people? How does Israel fit into the biblical revelation?

The second part of the class explores the rise of the modern Zionist Movement from 1839 until 1947.

The third part of the class focuses on the history of the modern state from 1948 until the present. How did this tiny country survive the onslaught of vastly superior enemies, dedicated then and dedicated today, to its demise? Who are the major players in the Middle East today? Why do they hate Israel? This segment of the class will help you understand and evaluate the news reports coming out of Israel.

The Jewish Life of the Messiah

The Jewish Life of the Messiah

Pastor Robert Morris is the Director of HaDavar Messianic Ministries and the School of Biblical and Jewish Studies in Irvine. Bob's ministry focus consists primarily of teaching the Bible from a Jewish perspective, thereby training Christians to reach their Jewish contacts effectively. He also supports evangelistic activities on college campuses as well as training local Messianic fellowships, Messianic congregations, and conventional churches.

“At a definite period of its history, Jesus of Nazareth, a Jew, spoke to and moved among Jews in Israel. It is absolutely necessary to view His life and teaching in all the surroundings of place, society, popular life, intellectual and religious development. This perspective forms not only the frame on which to set the picture of the Christ but the very background of the picture itself.”

- Dr. Alfred Edersheim: The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah (Paraphrased)

The basis of the study will be the four Gospel accounts of the Messiah’s life. The Twelve Minor Prophets

The two titles, “THE MINOR PROPHETS” or “THE TWELVE,” alternate as the name for a collection of writings from the pens of 12 prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

“The Twelve” is the traditional Jewish title of the collection while the “Minor Prophets” originated with the Latin Vulgate translation. The term "minor" in the title does not reflect upon the importance of the books in contrast to the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and Ezekiel, but rather upon their much smaller size. Indeed, the ultimate author of “The Twelve,” the God of the Universe, is the same for all the prophetic writings, thereby providing these short books with equal quality, authority, validity, and power.

The period of the Minor Prophets was a time of “strife and disappointment, as prophet after prophet begged and warned, foretold and chastised” a wayward nation. However, “The Twelve” did not leave Israel with a message of hopeless judgment and defeat. In contrast, the prophets censured the present but looked far beyond and held out to Israel the promise of the Messianic Kingdom and the coming glorious Messiah.

The Writings of John

The Writings of John

Mark Ellick was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Hebrew school as a youth, and was Bar Mitzvah when he was thirteen years old. At twenty-two, he discovered the real meaning of Judaism when he accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Since becoming a believer, Mark has found fulfillment in teaching and preaching the Word of God.

The apostle John was one of twelve men who intimately witnessed the ministry of Jesus the Messiah. He recorded what he saw and heard in his gospel so that those who read it might believe and be saved. However, as time passed false teachers came into the body of Messiah, denying important truths of the faith such as the incarnation and the God given ability of all believers to know God's truth. John responded by writing First John, a letter to believers that presents the truth about these and other important issues. Also discussed are the nature of a mature walk with God and the security of the believer.

The Bible also contains two other letters written by John in which he discusses important issues of faith and our walk with God. Join us as we journey through First, Second, and Third John, and share with us the blessings these letters have to offer us.
